'I wasn't beaten black and blue': Natalie Cassidy spoke about the reasons behind her decision to take back her ex fiancé Adam Cottrell on This Morning today

She admits she was left 'humiliated' by ex fiancé Adam Cottrell when he hit her during a violent argument last year.

But now Natalie Cassidy, 28, has spoken about the reasons behind her reconciliation with Cottrell.

The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant said she decided to give things another go after Cottrell decided to seek help for his addiction to alcohol.

She said: 'Adam and drink didn’t mix from the beginning. It did change and it got worse I was permanently on edge for him to have one drink – I put pressure on him.

'Many people who have partners they don’t like as much when they have a drink.'

Natalie, who has a 17-month-old daughter Eliza with Cottrell, also revealed the moment she had decided to end the relationship.

She told Phillip Schofield and Emma Willis on This Morning today: 'Arguments weren’t verbal anymore they became physical. We had an argument he took a slipper and hit me. I’m a strong person but I was humiliated.

'I stayed because it takes a while you feel embarrassed you don’t what to tell your family members straight away.

'But I opened up to friends and family and I was strong enough to get a restraining order, which is hard to do against the father of your child.'

But it was when Natalie allowed Cottrell to see their daughter Eliza that she decided to drop the restraining order against him, and slowly rediscovered her feelings for him.

And one incident in particular led to Natalie realising how deeply she felt for her former fiancé.

She said: 'One Friday, Something awful happened - he disappeared, his phone was switched off and what’s he doing? He’s drunk.

Spring style: Natalie wore a patterned navy dress with T-bar heels as she posed up outside the ITV studios following her appearance on the show

Good spirits: Natalie said that along as Adam sticks to not drinking, things between them will be fine

'He was found 36 hours later drunk in an old lady's garden. It was a frightening relapse. He had stopped drinking and thought he could do it on his own - but he can't.

'After that incident he called me and something turned in my brain and I realised he needs help.

'I’d never condone it… but I wasn’t beaten black and blue. Life is amazing without the constant fear in our lives.'

But while Natalie has given Cottrell, 32, another chance, she insists that if he fell off the wagon again, it would be an issue.

She said: 'If anything violent were to happen again it would absolutely be it if he went out and had a drink again I would address it.

'I know 100 per cent that if it carries on and he continues doing what he’s doing then I know we’re going to be very happy.'
