Dating: Kelly Brook with boyfriend Thom Evans after she lost the baby
Kelly Brook has spoken for the first time about her tragic miscarriage, describing it as ‘the hardest, most terrible time in my life’.
The model, 31, lost the baby girl she was expecting with rugby player Thom Evans in May when she was five months pregnant.
Kelly says she has spent most of the past few months holed up in her Kent home dealing with overwhelming moments of sadness, guilt and loss.
But with her characteristic optimism, the star believes the experience has brought her closer to Thom and allowed her to focus on her career.
She says: ‘The whole thing has been a huge journey. There are so many complex stages of bereavement that I’m still going through.
‘You feel emptiness, sadness, guilt, loss. I take it one day at a time. One moment you don’t even think about it, the next you’re crying hysterically.
'But it’s complicated, isn’t it?
'There are moments of total sadness and devastation, and moments of relief too. But you also have to remember that it’s life. Stuff like that happens.’
It is a surprisingly philosophical approach for the TV presenter known for fluffing her lines while her enviable curves made her the ultimate girl next door.
Healing: Kelly and Thom have recently been out on dates to Take That and Wimbledon (pictured)
She enjoyed long relationships with actors Jason Statham and Billy Zane, then England rugby ace Danny Cipriani before dating Thom, 26.
The couple met last December in a nightclub – ‘of course’, she laughs – and Kelly fell pregnant very quickly.
She says: ‘We were very grown up about it, and I felt lucky to have met someone who I trusted and who was kind, generous and responsible.
At the time, we just approached the pregnancy in the best way we could. As two people who didn’t know each other very well at all!’
Pregnancy suited her, and she and Scottish international Thom were photographed happily strolling in the sunshine together, her burgeoning bump on display.
But sadly she was rushed to hospital at the beginning of May and later lost her child.
Kelly says: ‘The whole thing has been a complete drama because having children wasn’t even on my radar.
Thom has only known me pregnant – all hormonal and blotchy – but he was always there for me.

‘So even though it was a drama, I felt blessed when I got my head round it because I thought of all the women who can’t have kids, so I was really happy.’
The tragedy would strain many relationships, particularly one so new. But Kelly feels they are stronger than ever.
She says: ‘We’ve become like best friends who love each other a lot. He’s sweet, kind and honest.
We’re enjoying getting to know each other because we moved backwards and then forwards. Actually we’re dating. Recently we went on dates to Take That and Wimbledon.’
Kelly’s career has seen her as a TV host and pin-up. She also spent six days as an extra judge on Britain’s Got Talent until producers decided her role ‘complicated’ the format.
But now she is looking forward and plans to develop homewares and toys, and beauty products based on the flowers in her country garden. And she has not ruled out having a family.
She says: ‘Some time in the next couple of years I’d love to have children. Until then, I need to concentrate on the serious business of looking glamorous.’
