While the Queen may own a vast collection of diamond tiaras, her European counterparts can certainly give her a run for her money.

To celebrate Queen Margrethe II of Denmark's 40 years on the throne, the Royals of Europe gathered in Copenhagen for a gala dinner - and to show off some very important jewels.

Of the younger Royals, Princess Mary of Denmark, not surprisingly, wore the most sparkling tiara and necklace set, including diamonds and rubies.

Crown jewels: Queen Silvia of Sweden, Anne-Marie of Greece, Queen Sonja of Norway

The 39-year-old is the wife of Prince Frederik. She looked stunning in a long midnight blue velvet gown to the event at Christiansborg Palace Chapel on Sunday.

Mary has been likened to the Duchess of Cambridge after the pair met in Copenhagan last year to visit a Unicef Warehouse.

Kate also has a similar style to the Princess.

Extravagant: Guests take their seat at the opulent celebrations, which lasted all weekend

Queen Silvia of Sweden, Anne-Marie of Greece, Queen Sonja of Norwa, older Royals, showed off an array of diamonds, sapphires and emeralds that stole the show.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway opted for a slightly more - yet equally stunning - modest look with a simple diamond tiara.

Queen Margrethe II came to the throne on January 14, 1972, by the death of her father and she became the first woman to take over Europe's oldest monarchy.

Mass celebrations over the weekend saw thousands of Danes line the streets, waving flags and cheering as the queen passed by in a horse-drawn golden carriage.

Known as Daisy, the queen is popular, with a poll last month showing that nearly eight out of 10 Danes are in favour of their monarch.

Margrethe has seen her popularity soar since the beginning of the 1980s as she began establishing herself as a talented artist.
