Fears for shoplifting Worrall Thompson over rambling and erratic TV chat

By Mail On Sunday Reporter

Disgraced chef Antony Worrall Thompson has raised further fears about his well-being after giving a rambling and erratic TV interview.

The 60-year-old star was recently cautioned for shoplifting cheese and wine from his local Tesco store.

Now, in a pre-recorded interview with chat show host Adrian Chiles, he has admitted he is undergoing counselling to try to find the cause of his behaviour.

Traumatic: In the TV interview, the famous chef revealed sad details of his childhood

On the That Sunday Night Show – to be screened on ITV tonight – he tells Chiles he blames the incidents on a series of childhood traumas including sexual abuse and being sent to boarding school at three.

He said: ‘I am seeing a psychoanalyst . . . umm what do you call it . . . people with addictions . . . addiction therapists.

‘I want them to come up with a reason but I hate to blame.

Ashamed: The disgraced chef was seen being driven by a friend after publicly expressing disbelief at his own behaviour

‘The counsellor says, he thinks I’m like a guy with a gun that’s fully loaded . . .and I’m always like that. And he said, “You’ve got to let that drop. People aren’t trying to attack you, they’re not trying to change you.”

‘[But] that is the way I have been brought up where I’ve have had to fight for everything.’

Happier times: Worrall Thompson poses with wife Jacinta Shiel and children

He added: ‘I think the psychoanalyst will come up with...being sent to boarding school at three, being sexually abused four times, being locked in coal holes.

‘Those were cruel times.’

The star went on to reveal he is filming a fly-on-the-wall series about his recent fall from grace – and is being followed by a camera crew.

Worrall Thompson, star of BBC cookery show Ready Steady Cook, was arrested two weeks ago after being stopped by security guards leaving the Tesco supermarket in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
