The real Luke Skywalker: Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, who turns 60 this month, in Los Angeles this week

As Luke Skywalker he was a handsome action hero for millions of cinema goers.

But actor Mark Hamill certainly showed his age as he stopped to get petrol in Los Angeles.

The actor, who turns 60 later this month, was dressed casually in a T-shirt from his upcoming film Sushi Girl and a scruffy grey shirt.

Looking rotund and bloated, Hamill was also dressed in pair of army combat trousers, a pair of canvas trainers and dark sunglasses.

The reclusive star lives with his wife of 32 years, Marilou York.

He is rarely seen outside his luxury mansion which is secluded in the Malibu Hills.

Hamill played Luke Skywalker in George Lucas' original trilogy and has failed to land any big acting roles since Return of The Jedi in 1983.

He has also gained a reputation as a prolific voice actor and had an acclaimed role as the Joker in the Emmy Award winning Batman: The Animated Series.

Two weeks ago he appeared at the Comic Con event in San Diego to promote a Batman video game.

His latest film Sushi Girl is due for release in 2012.
