The Iron Lady: Meryl Streep looked chic and sophisticated at the premiere of her latest film which sees her play Margaret Thatcher


She's already won an award for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher and tonight Meryl Streep looked set for more success.

The 62-year-old actress was beaming as she walked the blue carpet at the UK premiere of The Iron Lady tonight.

Despite the cold British weather, Streep looked in good spirits as she chatted with fans and prepared to show off her latest film.

The star made sure she was wrapped up for the event, which was held at the BFI Southbank.

Posing for photographs in a long black dress that had a hint of a plunging neckline, Streep teamed it with an oversized black and blue poncho-style winter coat.

She finished off her look with a chunky pair of black-heeled boots and a gold statement necklace and matching cuff bangle.

As the mother-of-four had fun meeting and greeting her fans, an array of famous faces took their place on the carpet.

Her onscreen husband Jim Broadbent looked very smart in a grey three-piece suit which he wore with a white shirt.

The pair posed for photographs once they were inside and are no doubt excited about the response to the film.

Another onscreen couple were also there to pose together - Alexandra Roach and Harry Lloyd.

The pair play Margaret and Denis Thatcher when they were younger and appeared to be soaking up the atmosphere at the premiere.

Roach was channelling a Sixties look wearing a yellow Emilia Wickstead dress with black pointy heels and her dark hair in a beehive.

Lloyd looked just as dressed up wearing a dark suit and navy winter coat.

Another young actress who glammed up for the occasion was Emily Head.

The Inbetweeners star showed off her legs in a very short black and red dress, but she kept the cold at bay by teaming it with a pair of black tights.

She posed for photographs with her famous father Anthony Head - who portrays Geoffrey Howe in the film.

Someone who wasn't bothered about covering her legs up was actress Emilia Fox.

The pretty star wore a midi-length grey shiny dress with a pair of black peep-toe heels.

She was followed by Harry Potter star Fiona Shaw who wore an unusual pair of tights with a fur-trimmed coat.

Among the crowd waiting to catch a glimpse of all the famous faces was 17-month-old Tyler Secomb.

The youngster is becoming a bit of a regular at film premieres after she was spotted having her photo taken with Johnny Depp at The Rum Diary premiere in November last year.

Streep also paid Secomb - who was wearing the same pink all-in-one suit - some special attention and made sure they had a photo together.

In the highly-anticipated film - directed by Phyllida Lloyd - she portrays the British Prime Minister through a series of flashbacks, which includes a look at the 17 days leading up to the Falklands War in 1982.

The Iron Lady will be showing at cinemas across the UK from January 6.

It seems Arnold Schwarzenegger could be living up to his most famous one-liner - 'I'll be back'.
Today the Terminator star's estranged wife was spotted wearing what looked suspiciously like her wedding ring for the first time since June of last year.
Maria, 56, was quick to remove her wedding band after her husband of 25 years Arnie admitted to fathering a secret love child with their housekeeper Mildred Baena.
Shriver filed for divorce in July but appears to be reconsidering the move due to a number of factors, including her Catholic faith and Arnold's attempts to woo her back.

The former Governor, 64, was seen enjoying a cup of coffee with friends in Sun Valley, Idaho over the holidays and was sporting the gold band with a set stone on his left hand.

But last night Maria, Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher all went out for dinner at Katsuya in Brentwood while cheating Arnie was conspicuously absent.

The Terminator star may still have to win back his childrens' trust.

Katherine, the eldest of the children, also said she fled to London after her parents separated, to escape a storm of unwanted attention.

Katherine's brother Patrick meanwhile uses Shriver as his second name on Twitter.

Maria filed for divorce citing 'irreconcilable differences' and asked for joint physical and legal custody of their youngest children, Patrick and Christopher.

The couple had no prenuptial agreement, so Schwarzenegger and Shriver would be entitled to a 50/50 split of their assets.

The two are estimated to be worth $400 million.

The Canadian actress, who played opposite Ryan in the 2004 film that was set in the 1940s, shows her playful side in the February edition of the magazine.

'Every relationship I've had with a co-worker has come after the fact, because you wind up actually spending a lot of time with those people promoting their movie.'

'Channing is very outgoing, very kind and a lot of fun to work with.'

Rachel also praises Owen Wilson with whom she has appeared on film twice, in Midnight In Paris and the 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers.

She admits the 42-year-old is her dream costar. Rachel says: 'It's an embarrassment of riches.

'I love Owen in Midnight in Paris.

'He's so endearing and it was a completely different kind of relationship from the one we had in Wedding Crashers.'

The Toronto resident also confesses to having a childhood crush on actor Josh Brolin who starred in the 1985 movie, The Goonies.

Although she is flattered that her ex-boyfriends speak kindly of her she seems surprised that Ryan Gosling has been described by Glamour as being a 'huge feminist icon.'

When told that there are numerous blogs dedicated to the Drive actor, she says: 'Feminist icon? Wow! Is that real?

Nothing compares to him: Sinead O'Connor and husband Barry Herridge, pictured at their Vegas wedding last month, have apparently reconciled


Just a week after announcing her fourth marriage was over after just 16 days, it appears Sinead O'Connor has changed her mind.

The giddy singer, 45, took to her newly re-opened Twitter account in the early hours of this morning to reveal she was reconciling with her husband Barry Herridge.

In rather revealing messages, the Irish star said the couple had been 'love-making'.


Admitting they rushed down the aisle following their Las Vegas nuptials on December 8 after just four months of dating, O'Connor explained they would be 'boyfriend and girlfriend again' - despite still being legally wed.

Under her Twitter handle 'vampyahslayah', The Nothing Compares 2 U star wrote: 'Guess who had a mad love making affair with her own husband last night?

'Yay!!! we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend again an (sic) stay married but we did rush, so we gonna return to b friend g friend and be sickenly (sic) happy an go counsellin (sic) an move in like a yr like regular people...

'But stay married an we all in love an f**k every other motherf**ker who don't like it.. so me all happy!! me love me hubby.. he love me... f**k who no like it.. God is good!'

O'Connor revealed the couple's marriage had ended in a lengthy statement on her official website on Boxing Day.

In fact, they had only lived together as husband and wife for seven days following the ceremony at the Little White Wedding Chapel.

Initially, she blamed the 'intense pressure' on the couple and admitted his friends and family were unhappy with the union.

A few days later, she revealed their relationship ran into problems immediately after the ceremony when she went on a hunt around Las Vegas for cannabis.

She told The Sun: 'We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous.

'I wasn't scared - but he's a drugs counsellor. What was I thinking?
'Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened — that kind of messed everything up a bit really.'

She met drug counsellor Barry, 38, after he replied to her online blog in September in which she said that she was 'sex-starved' and asked potential suitors to apply.

Clearly happy with her reignited lovelife, she later added on Twitter: 'So Sinead got laid!!!... and all well.

'Yay!!! me husband is a big hairy cave man an (sic) came to claim me with his club : ) and now I'm in cave-land.. yay!! We both go panto!'

Herridge is the latest husband in a list of short-lived marriages for the unlucky-in-love star.

She was previous wed and had a son Jake with musician John Reynolds in the late 80s, journalist Nick Sommerland from 2001-2004 and musician Steve Cooney in 2010 - which ended less than a year later.

She also had a lengthy on/off relationship with Dermott Hayes and another that lasted about a year from 2006 and 2007 with Frank Bonadio, who is the father of her son Yeshua, four.

She's managed to keep her baby name under wraps since becoming a mother five weeks ago.

But Lily Cooper's mother Alison Owen has inadvertently revealed the little girl's name on Facebook.

The film producer mentioned the baby was named Ethel Mary in a message to a friend on the social networking page.

An old friend of Lily's husband Sam also recently confirmed the baby's name was Ethel on his Twitter page.

Although popular in the early 20th century, the name Ethel is rather unusual these days with only three babies given the name last year.

The name is a traditional English, which originated in the 1800s and means 'righteous' or 'noble'.

In more recent decades, it was the name of popular EastEnders character Ethel Skinner, played by Gretchen Franklin.

The pop star, who changed her name from Lily Allen to Lily Cooper following her June wedding to builder Sam, gave birth to their 7lbs 3oz daughter on November 25.

Although she never officially announced the birth, she simply wrote 'totes amaze' (slang for 'totally amazing') on her Twitter page on the day of Ethel's arrival.

Her ex-boyfriend Seb Chew, who she dated from 2005 until 2007, also tweeted at the time: 'Sending out love to Lily, Sam and mini Cooper......YES.'

Lily's pregnancy was first revealed in June on her wedding day to Sam in Gloucestershire.

She had kept it under wraps from friends and family for weeks after tragically losing two babies in previous pregnancies.

And in January 2008, the singer suffered a miscarriage when she was four months pregnant with Chemical Brothers DJ Ed Simons.

They might have been surrounded by fire-ravaged ruins on their Caribbean island wedding.

But Holly Branson and her new husband Fred Andrews only had eyes for each other as they shared their first kiss as a married couple.

The newlyweds locked lips in front of their proud and happy friends and family moments after tying the knot on her father Sir Richard Branson's idyllic Necker Island.


Holly looked absolutely beautiful in her elegant white gown as she tenderly kissed her ship broker husband, who couldn't stop smiling as he held his stunning new bride.

From the front row, Holly's parents Sir Richard and Lady Joan, and her brother Sam, led the rest of the guests in a round of applause as they beamed with pride.

And it all became too much for Sir Richard and 26-year-old Sam, who, according to Holly, cried buckets as she tied the knot.

Speaking to Hello! magazine in an exclusive interview to accompany a stunning set of photos from her big day, Holly said: 'Dad cries at anything, even adverts. My brother, Sam, was even more emotional - he was literally uncontrollably crying. Blubbing his eyes out.'

Holly and Fred married on the island that back in August was ravaged by a huge fire that destroyed the Great House on the Virgin Island.

She wasn't going to let that stop her holding her big day there and said getting married on the remains added a special aspect to the ceremony.

Talking to the magazine, she said: 'Because it is such a dramatic environment, you don't get a sad feeling on the ruins, it's more of an uplifting, wow, a feeling of celebration and a time to reflect.

'Before, we were wondering where to fit that many people to have a proper service, but it was the most obvious big flat open space, it was perfect.

'It's definitely our special place and it looked absolutely beautiful, even thought it was still very rustic - there are still piles of rubble - it was dramatic. And it's stunning because you're at the top of a hill so there are incredible panoramic views.'

But despite going ahead with the wedding on the ruins of the fire, the bridal party and the guests then had to contend with a tropical storm which lashed the palm-fringed retreat.

And the waves were so high that the boat bringing guests from nearby Virgin Gorda couldn’t moor and some guests even dived into the sea to get ashore.

Freddie said: ‘The girls spent hours getting ready, only to have the rain and winds ruin it - but they still looked beautiful and it added to the spirit of the occasion. It certainly wasn’t going to spoil our day.’

Holly and Fred, who met at school in Oxford, shared 35 pictures of their beautiful wedding with the publication.

The event was well-attended, including two royal guests- Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie.

While it is not surprising the two were invited to the nuptials as they are close with Holly, they did make the unusual move of declining the annual invite to the Queen's pre-Christmas lunch.

Given that the Queen only summons the entire Royal Family to the palace twice a year, it clearly was a serious request for the girls to ask their grandmother's permission to skip the event.

A source said: 'It’s a sure sign that the Queen has mellowed a little.

The stunning 30-year-old blonde is seen wearing a bespoke ivory wedding gown and veil by Australian bridal designer Jane Hill, with sparkling Jimmy Choo sandals and carrying a posy of cream roses.

Talking about being walked up the aisle by Virgin boss Sir Richard, Holly said: 'I saw everyone's smiling faces and Freddie standing there at the altar, I just felt so happy. It was a real moment for us to share.'

And Sir Richard added: 'Its ruins couldn't have been a more perfect setting to hold such a beautiful wedding. We definitely turned a negative into a positive.'

The gorgeous wedding ceremony followed a four-day build-up, which had seen the 100 friends take part in a variety of activities including sailing races, beach olympics and a vollyeball tournament, won by Holly.

Holly also revealed that Sir Richard is already keen for her to fall pregnant so that he can be a grandfather.

She laughed: 'He was really keen for me to be pregnant walking down the aisle. He didn't think we should worry about being married first.

'My parents weren't married before they had Sam and I, but both had been married before and it didn't work, so I think for us, it's nice to do everything in the right order.'

And Freddie, 30, told Hello! he is keen to get started on having children, adding: 'Both of us would love to start a family and we think that marriage is the first step to getting that underway.'

Spot the difference: David Beckham shows off his bulge again in his new underwear range for H&M but it looks very similar to his campaign for Armani back in 2009


Fans have been excited to see David Beckham in his underwear ever since he announced his new campaign back in July - and now the wait is over.

New images showing the 36-year-old footballer posing in tight briefs for retail fashion chain H&M were released today and are bound to please the ladies.

David is showing off his toned body, his extensive body art and of course an impressive package in the advertisement for his own bodywear.


Wearing a pair of tight white trunk briefs - that will retail at £9.99 a pair - the father-of-four looks mean and moody as he stares into the distance.

The image bears many similarities to that of David's previous campaign with Italian designer brand Armani who he first modelled for in 2007.

The only props missing from his latest campaign are a giant rope, lots of hair gel and a bottle of baby oil.

The sportsman caused quite a stir two years ago when he revealed his bulge in the black designer briefs, and even opted for a skimpier pair in an image that saw him laying down wearing an unbuttoned white shirt.

Of course the high-street brand is worlds away from Armani, but men will still be pleased to know they can wear a pair of David's designs.

Earlier this year, the LA Galaxy star spoke of his plans to branch out into the fashion industry.

'I have had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now,' he told WWD.

'I can't wait to show people the collection - although I'm not sure my mum will be too happy seeing a billboard image of me in underwear again.'

The new range will be available to buy in H&M stores from February 2 - just in time for Valentine's Day.

The Swedish retailers are no doubt hoping that they will make the perfect gift for women to present their husbands and boyfriends with.

Today it was revealed that David will not be making the move to the French capital to play for Paris Saint Germain.

In what would have been a coup for the French side, Becks turned down a lucrative offer to join ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti after citing 'family reasons' for his refusal.

The footballer, who is currently in the UK with his family on a winter break from America after winning the MLS title last November, is now expected to sign a new deal with LA Galaxy.

The designer boutiques of Paris will be a little disappointed after news that David Beckham snubbed a move to Paris Saint Germain.

So Victoria will have to stick with the shops of Los Angeles for the time being.

In what would have been a coup for the French side, Becks turned down a lucrative offer to join ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti in the French capital after citing 'family reason' for his refusal.


'It's over,' Leonardo told L'Equipe. 'It's a shame. But the welfare of his family in Los Angeles, the wish not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily.'

The club's sporting director Leonardo revealed today: 'He will not come to PSG.'

Beckham, who is currently in the UK with his family on a winter break from America after winning the MLS title last November, is now expected to sign a new deal with LA Galaxy.

And PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi confirmed Leonardo's comments, saying that LA Galaxy have won the battle for his signature.

When asked if he thought Beckham would stay in LA, Al Khelaifi replied: 'Yes, I think so. David Beckham is in Los Angeles and will stay there. He will not come, it's clear.'

Leonardo had previously stated he was willing to wait for as long as it takes to allow Beckham to make his decision over whether to move to the French capital.

'The question has never been professional but about his family. It is a difficult choice to make to move his family to Paris,' he said.

Beckham is said to have been buoyed by the success of LA Galaxy after they won last season's MLS championship, and the improving quality of a team that also includes Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan.
