Rupert Sanders has been unceremoniously dumped from the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel.
Studio bosses are said to have had to make a choice between the married director and Kristen Stewart... and they chose the 22-year-old actress.
It would have clearly been incredibly awkward if the pair - who were caught kissing after making the film - had to work together again as both are desperately trying to re-build their relationships with the partners they cheated on.
Ousted: Rupert Sanders, pictured in LA on Friday with daughter Skyla, has been axed from the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel but Kristen Stewart has been kept on to reprise her leading role
So Sanders got the chop, according to Radar Online.
Apparently because Sanders is spending all his time trying to make amends with his wife Liberty Ross, who was rumoured to have wanted a divorce after the scandal broke, he did not want to be attached to the project anyway.
A close source said: 'The script has already been written and production will begin late next year.'
'However, Rupert Sanders definitely won't be a part of the project.
'Rupert didn't want to be a part of it to begin with because he is desperately still trying to save his marriage. The search is still on for a new director.'
Tough decision: Studio bosses had to choose between the director and Kristen and opted to keep the actress after the pair were caught having an affair during the summer
Father-of-two Sanders, 41, was photographed kissing Kristen in his car during the summer and after the cheating scandal became public, the Twilight star was forced to issue an apology to boyfriend Robert Pattinson.
In a statement she said: I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected.
'This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob.
'I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry.'

Despite her Kristen claiming the tryst happened only once there were several reports that the fling had been going on for 'months'.
While Sanders' personal future remains uncertain Kristen and Robert seem to be back on track.
The pair were spotted at JFK airport in New York on Friday after reportedly spending the Thanksgiving break with Robert's family in London.
The couple had earlier been spotted checking in at Heathrow airport in London on Friday for a flight to New York where they happily queued up with other passengers before taking their seats in first class.
