Katie Holmes seems to be growing ever more bold with her wardrobe choices since her divorce from Tom Cruise was settled last month.

And she definitely turned heads in New York City on Friday, when she stepped out in a smart hot pink shirt dress that fell well above her knees.

But the 33-year-old actress and mother narrowly averted a wardrobe malfunction, as a gust of wind caught the hem of her dress and blew it skywards.

Close call: Katie Holmes moves to narrowly avert a wardrobe malfunction as she stepped out in NYC today

Katie deftly moved to keep her dress in place as she walked, moving her free hand to pull the hem down while carrying a large black tote bag in the other.

The Dawson's Creek star pursed her lips and looked to one side, no doubt praying for a little help from the elements as she continued walking.

Hot in the city: The 33-year-old actress looked fantastic in a hot pink shirt dress, which she belted at the waist

Earlier this week, Katie and her stylist Jeanne Yang presented their latest collection, Holmes & Yang, during New York Fashion Week.

Holmes described the aesthetic as 'very simple, with very classic lines'.

She told WWD: 'We use a lot of silks and leathers and suedes.

'It’s basically pieces that have evolved from basics, but not too far. They’re just nice, well-made luxury items that highlight the woman wearing them.'

Price points start from about $700 and range to $3,000, she said.

Making her own way: The actress recently debuted her latest fashion collection and signed a deal with coveted make-up brand Bobbi Brown

'We have a lot of casual, and gowns, some unique jackets.'

Details include shirts lined in silk - ;the silky part of the shirt is on your body all day,' she said.

The Batman Begins actress also inked a deal this month with high-end make-up line Bobbi Brown, becoming the very first person to front the brand in its 21-year history.

Her face will appear in a new ad campaign, due to break next spring, as well as on-counter visuals at point-of-sale.
