With her eyes smiling and a wide grin transfixed on Kris Smith, these pictures that capture model Jennifer Hawkins growing closeness to Dannii Minogue's ex-partner are said to be one of the reasons for the couples split.

The pictures taken last October are said to have signalled the final nail in the coffin for the former X Factor judge who was heartbroken after seeing pictures of their flirty friendship.

Both Kris, 33, and Jennifer, 28, who work as models for Australian department store Myer have denied having an affair. But the chemistry between them is more than apparent.

Despite being dogged by rumours of model Kris's flirting, Dannii is said to have fought hard to save the relationship and she gave up her job as an X Factor judge to move back to Australia.

However a source told The Daily Star: 'Kris wanted Dannii to be a stay-at-home mum. He wanted her to quit Australia's Got Talent and her modelling work and any job that took her away from home.'

The new pictures emerged as Kris was seen back in his day job for Myer yesterday in Sydney with model Hawkins for more promotional duties.

While the former X Factor judge, 40, is at home in Melbourne with their 20-month-old son Ethan, Kris is over 500 miles away at the Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney.

Judging a best dressed content at the racecourse this weekend, Myer bosses refused to let Kris be photographed next to former Miss Universe Jennifer.

Jennifer, who is engaged to male model Jake Wall, said last year: 'Kris is so much fun, he’s such a cool guy. He’s much more of a mate to me it’s nice.'

And while he awkwardly shared the stage with brunette Lauren, they didn't share any eye contact.

However, after their promotional duties, Kris kept his distance from the two women, despite their friendlier working relationship last year.

Kris's appearance at the races comes days after he and Dannii confirmed they had split after four years together.

Dannii wrote on Twitter: 'It brings me great sadness to tell you that Kris and I have separated... our son Ethan remains our number one priority.'

Meanwhile, Mancunian model Kris wrote on his page: 'Dannii and I have a deep mutual love and respect for each other and although things have not worked out we have a gorgeous son together that we both love and implore everyone to respect our privacy at this challenging time.'
