Rivalry: Piers Morgan welcomed Madonna to Twitter by banning her from both his US and UK chat shows

He's known for his outlandish views towards celebrities and now Piers Morgan has gone a step further by banning Madonna from ever appearing on any of his shows.

The Material Girl joined Twitter earlier this week.

And the journalist turned chat show host took the opportunity to welcome the singer by hitting out at her.

Piers placed a ban on the pop superstar and tweeted: 'Welcome to Twitter. You're still banned from my show. Love Piers X.'

The 46-year-old didn't embellish on why she has been banned from his show.

But the comment left Madonna's manager Guy Oseary confused, as they received an invite for the singer to appear on his show just in October.

'Yesterday's news': Piers has said he doesn't want 'irritant' Madonna to appear on any of his programmes

Oseary posted up a copy of the invite letter on his own Twitter page, and wrote to Piers: 'Really?'

Piers then quickly explained that he had only banned her from his US CNN show, but the letter had been for an appearance on his UK programme, for which she is now banned too.

Fallen out: The newsman was caught out when Madonna's manager Guy OSeary posted a copy of a letter inviting the singer on to his UK show in October

He replied: 'Madonna has only been banned from my CNN show, not my UK show, which sent that invite. But I'm now banning her from that too.'

Piers explained last year in an article for the Daily Mail that he didn't want to interview Madonna 'on the grounds that she is far more boring and considerably less talented than her new, young doppelganger Lady Gaga.'

And he said last January that she has been 'an irritant in my life for 20 years'.

Confusing: Piers explained that she was initially only banned from his US show, hence the letter, but he has now banned her from his UK programme as well

But it leaves some confusion as to why he was still happy to interview the star on his UK show up until yesterday, when he left the message for the star.

Representatives for the singer originally fought back when he first banned her from the CNN series, and insisted: 'She doesn't even know who he is.'

But he spoke out to that reaction last year and said: 'Madonna obviously thought she was being very clever by reacting to my ban by saying she'd never heard of me,' and added that she was 'yesterday's news.'
