But today Michelle Williams vamped up her modest attire by wearing a pair of very short shorts to attend the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica.
The 31-year-old My Week With Marilyn actress appeared to be channeling the sexy librarian look by paring her modest white shirt and navy blue and black tuxedo jacket with the matching thigh-skimming bottoms, which flaunted her slim figure.
The Oscar nominated actress told the Daily Mail that she decided to wear her navy blue Louis Vuitton suit because it was something 'hot and cool' to wear on a hot day.
She finished the look off with a quirky accessory - a clutch handbag in the shape of the infamous J. D. Salinger's famous novel The Catcher In The Rye .
The elfin beauty wore a pair of black pumps featuring pretty bows and had her platinum pixie haircut styled effortlessly.
Michelle who was attending the Film Independent Spirit Awards held under a huge marquee on the beach at Santa Monica said she wanted to wear an outfit that combined 'smartness with a relaxed spirit'
She told the Daily Mail: 'It's so well cut and it looks good on me and the pants are what I'd wear for a stroll along the beach'.
The actress finished off her outfit with a pair of black high heel shoes by Fendi.
It wasn't just her style that proved winning as the actress scooped the award for Best Female Lead for her portrayal of screen icon Monroe in My Week With Marilyn.
As she accepted the award Michelle spoke of her first time at the awards ceremony, over a decade ago.
She said: 'I wore my own clothes back then, which were not very good, and I cut my own hair, which also was not very good.'

With several awards for her work capturing the blonde bombshell it is likely she will also secure an Oscar for her performance at the awards ceremony on Sunday.
Silent film The Artist won four of the awards it was nominated for and the cast and crew took the awards for Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Male Lead and Best Cinematography.

While the film has been sweeping the boards at this season's awards ceremonies the fact that the film was even nominated was a surprise to fans.
Most Spirit Awards are only open to American-made films, but the flick qualified because it was partially financed by investors in the U.S. and because of the fact that Michael Hazanavicus has permanent U.S. resident status.
Shailene Woodley picked up the award for Best Supporting Female for her part in The Descendants while Beginners star Christopher Plummer took home the gong for Best Supporting Male.

There was an incredible turnout to the star-studded bash and gave talent an opportunity to show off a slightly less glamorous style ahead of tomorrow's Oscars.
